I was looking at the Fisher Theater's webpage and now I want to go to a musical. I've never been to a musical before and the closest thing to a play I've ever been to was in high school. Not that I'm criticizing high school plays but they really aren't that organized. I'd like to see something done by professionals.
Some current shows at the Fisher are I'll Be Home for Christmas and Mary Poppins. I'll Be Home for Christmas is running this week and Mary Poppins runs from December 16 to January 2. Upcoming shows include Chicago, Burn the Floor and In the Heights.
Personally I'd like to go see Chicago. I liked the film version so maybe I'll like the Broadway version. If anyone is interested in Musical Theater here is the link to a site that has The Fisher Theater shows and the Detroit Opera House shows. http://www.broadwayindetroit.com/index.cfm

What is dubstep?
I ask myself that question everytime I hear someone raving about this *new* music trend. What in the world is dubstep and why is everyone talking about it?
So I did some research.
Dubstep is a type of electronic music that started in the UK in the latter part of the 1990s and the early 2000s.

Dubstep is a type of electronic music that started in the UK in the latter part of the 1990s and the early 2000s.
Dubstep is characterized by its heavy emphasis on bass frequencies, minimalist rhythms and dark notes. Listening to dubstep as its meant to be heard, surrounded by towering subs that vibrate through the club, can give the impression of being underwater thanks to the permanently suppressed bass.

Its overall sound has been described as "tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals" according to wikipedia..Although it takes its roots from drum and bass , UK garage and Jamaican dub music it is it's own form of electronic music.
Here is a mainstream example of dubstep with female vocals.
Katy on a Mission-Katy B
Other dubstep influenced artists out there are the duo La Roux, Skream and Magnetic Man. Anyone who likes techno should probably check some of these artists out.

Introductory
Ever since I was a kid I've always liked music. Oldies, Motown, Pop, you name it my parents were listening to it. Naturally I was drawn to it. My all time favorite artist is and will always be Michael Jackson. He has been an inspiration to many talented performers.
So with that in mind I've decided to write about music in this blog. I'm going to write about specific artists and music genres. I also hope to work in the entertainment industry after I graduate from the University of Michigan-Dearborn, possibly working for a magazine like Rolling Stone.
